EMS Brüel & Kjær has announced a significant update to its environmental monitoring application – Sentinel. The service is extending its capability beyond noise and vibration into air quality with a range of 9 parameters for dust, gas and odour compliance monitoring. To achieve this, EMS has partnered with French company envea to supply their Cairnet range of air quality microsensors. Cairnet is produced by Cairpol, a division of envea™, the new trademark of Environnement S.A Group (France).
Sentinel is a fully managed service, providing continuous environment monitoring to manage compliance, reduce impact, optimize operations, and engage directly with communities and other stakeholders. It is used by large construction projects, mines, ports, industrial plants and other businesses that create an impact in the outdoor environment. Sentinel alerts operators before levels reach defined limits, reducing the risk of complaints, costly shutdowns and reputational damage.
“Sentinel has been monitoring dust and NO2 for some time but, with the Cairnet air quality stations, our customers can now choose from 9 different air quality parameters alongside noise, ground vibration and directional noise,” said David Currie, EMS’s Sentinel Product manager. “All the data is collected, processed and presented in Sentinel. The same alerting and reporting capabilities make it very easy for our customers to work with the data.”
The update will add continuous monitoring of the following parameters: Ozone, Nitrogen Dioxide, Carbon Monoxide, Sulphur Dioxide, Hydrogen sulphide & methyl mercaptans, Ammonia, Volatile Organic Compounds, and dust PM10 & PM2.5.
Phil Stollery, Global Product Marketing Manager for EMS, said “We have been very impressed with the envea™ air quality microsensors. They are small, operate continuously with solar panels, require little maintenance and have significantly lower operating cost than air quality enclosures commonly used for air quality assessment. Accuracy has been independently proven to be close to reference level, making them practical for use in many applications such as construction, power generation and waste water management”.
